Black and White

Color is such an important part of my calendering.  I love being able to take a step back, visually take in how much of one color is dominating my calendar, allowing me to assess if there is too much or not enough of something going on.

But this calendar starts off lacking in color because this calendar is all about what matters to you — you get to decide what color means what, where it goes on the page.  How might color be used to help you discern how you live your life with thoughtfulness and care?

For me, every person in my family is assigned a color, and family activities are a different color.  So when I take a step back and take in the color of my calendar, I’m asking myself, “Do the colors generally have balance? Is there an imbalance I need to consider? How many intentional family events did we participate in together?  Did my husband get any social time outside of the home this month? Did I?”

Now remember, what works for you might not work for everyone else.  You might use color on your calendar based on the category of the activity — maybe work is one color, social is another, kids’ sports, etc.  It might change season to season how using color on your calendar works for you.

The important thing is that whether you are using color or not, it is helping you answer the questions you have decided matter to you, the reason you’re using a calendar in the first place.
